Greyhound Polyneuropathy

Greyhound Polyneuropathy is a fatal neurological disease specific to the Greyhound show dog population. Symptoms include: decreased or absent reflexes, muscle weakness, muscle pain and cramps, and a bunny-hopping gait. It usually appears within the first 9 months of age, progressing so quickly that most affected dogs must be euthanized within their first year. Currently, there is no effective treatment for Greyhound Polyneuropathy.

VetNostic Laboratories’ genetic tests for Greyhound Polyneuropathy can reliably identify dogs that are either clear, or possess one or two copies of the disease causing gene. This clear, carrier, or affected result can help breeders determine which animals to include in their breeding program.

Volume discounts are available for Breeder Clubs, etc. Please contact us for more information.
