Hyperuricosuria

Hyperuricosuria(HU) is a recessively inherited disease that occurs in several breeds. The mutation responsible for HU is on the Solute carrier Family 2, member 9(SLC2A9) gene. Affected dogs have elevated levels of uric acid in their urine which makes them susceptible to bladder/kidney stones.

VetNostic Laboratories’ genetic tests for Hyperuricosuria can reliably identify dogs that are either clear, or possess one or two copies of the HU causing gene. This clear, carrier, or affected result can help breeders determine which animals to include in their breeding program.

*Dalmations are normally affected. Unless there is an outcross to another breed, it is unnecessary to perform the HU test.

Volume discounts are available for Breeder Clubs, etc. Please contact us for more information.
